"What are Rocky Books?"
We're building our website right now and at the very top of our homepage is a section titled "What are Rocky Books?". It's been more than 2 years since we wrote and illustrated our first book and I still can't pin it down - the elusive definition. We're supposed to be able to define what we do and our mission in one sentence, right?
Rocky Books are a lifeline. That's what I thought, when I first had the idea years ago. A lifeline for parents who need support but don't know where to get it, or maybe who aren't even sure what their child needs.
Rocky Books are a tool. An educational resource. A helpful guide.
Rocky Books are stories. Stories of children in India, Syria, England and Turkiye. Children affected by domestic violence, gaslighting, natural disasters, displacement and grief.
Rocky Books are activity books. Follow along with the therapist-prescribed exercise, breathe in and breathe out with us.
Rocky Books are 10-15 pages of stunning, diverse, and relatable illustrations.
Rocky Books are a mirror. Something we wish we had when we were little. A place we see ourselves, maybe as the child or maybe as the parent.
Rocky Books is a team. 2 founders, 3 illustrators, dozens of translation volunteers, sponsors, advisors and consultants.
